Colorado Beer NewsAs we crest over the work week hill and start heading slowly downhill towards the next weekend, we could all use a little pick me up and Fermentedly Challenged has some tidbits of brew news that you can use to get you over that hump. It's a bit of a slow news day, but there's still some specials you'll want to know about. Here's what's happening around the Colorado craft beer scene today for Wednesday, January 7th, 2015. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

Living The Dream Brewing Co - Love to ski? Love craft beer? Then hears an event to take note of. The brewery is planning to host a day trip to Arapahoe Basin Ski Area on Saturday, January 17th, 2015. They have beach access at A-Basin and will be BBQ-ing and have beer available all day at the beach ready for you. Then, you get to relax in a bus instead of driving yourself. The cost is $65 per person and included everything EXCEPT ski gear and a lift ticket (you provide). They'll pick everyone up at the brewery at 6:15am and head up to A-Basin. They'll set up shop on the beach with BBQ and beer. You simply have to ride along, ski, have fun and relax on the way back. It's a rough life eh? Sign up in the taproom. Must be 21! In the meantime, bring your skis in to the brewery tonight for a Pint & Wax at 6pm. They are teaming up with Eskimo Ski & Board to get everyone's gear in shape for the ski season. $15 will get you a ski or board wax and a pint to drink while you watch someone else work on your gear! Some epic ski films will be playing on the taproom TVs & the smell of sweet sweet ski wax will be filling the air. CAUTION: Brewing CO - Their 1st ever Epic Karaoke Competition starts tonight at West! First place winner wins free beer for a year! Every singer entering gets a free 10oz beer just for signing up. You can't lose! Now for the rules: Wednesdays in January are qualifying rounds. Qualification runs from 8-9pm, allowing you to practice beforehand (karaoke starts at 7pm), and sing for fun afterwards. If you make it through a qualifying round in Jan., you are not required to be at any other qualifying round. Although you're more than welcome to sing before or after judging has finished. A secret panel of judges will be scoring you on singing ability, stage presence, and audience response. If you qualify, you have to be at every round in February until you either win or get disqualified. If you're not there when you're called during the competition, you'll be immediately disqualified. They determine the order you sing during the competition. They'll be announcing themes/genres/eras of songs to sing for the following week beforehand so you have time to choose/practice. Free beer for a year for the ultimate winner! You'll be getting one free growler fill/week, and one free beer each time you come in to CAUTION: West. Prizes will also be awarded to the top 3 singers!

Lone Tree Brewing Co - Their newest beer is ready - their Bronco Belgian Pale Ale is now on tap starting today. Come enjoy a pint of the beer that they hope will push our Denver Broncos towards the Super Bowl! It's available for growlers too and of course by the pint in the Tasting Room. Dry Dock Brewing Co - For those headed up to Vail for the Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines festival this weekend - look for Dry Dock to be pouring some of their best beers. They'll be pouring Signature Series Double Brown Ale, Double Hazelnut Brown Ale, Double Vanilla Porter, and Double Coffee Porter at the festival. Also, stop by Fireside Lounge in Vail to try some of their Bligh's Barleywine on tap.

Blue Spruce Brewing - Tonight is their Burger and Beer Wednesday Special. Get a Blue Spruce Burger and a flagship beer or house wine for just $10.95. Also, they just tapped their Spruce Amber Ale today. Come on in and try it with a burger. Our Mutual Friend Malt & Brew - File this one under "Brews to Look Forward To". They just brewed up a 100% Brett IPA using all Colorado grown malt & hops. It's now in wine barrels for primary fermentation. They can't wait to share this one with you. [2810 Larimer St, Denver, CO]

Elk Mountain Brewing - At 4pm today they'll celebrate Shannon's 21st birthday. They'll be tapping a special Confetti Cake Pale Ale just for the occasion. Come help her celebrate total legality. ALso, Lena B Bar-B-Que will be there serving up fresh hot grub. [18921 Plaza Dr, Parker, CO]

Lost Highway Brewing Co - Today they've tapped their new Poet Session IPA. It's an American style IPA brewed with Galaxy, Azacca & Centennial hops. Try pairing it with their special carrot cake! [520 E Colfax Ave, Denver, CO]


Boulder County

Oskar Blues Grill & Brew - They're doing the first test batch of 2015 ‪‎Gubna‬ up at Oskar Blues Grill & Brew in Lyons, CO today and it's gonna be HUGE this year. They ran a major hop selection in Colorado and North Carolina and now they're seeing how they did. If only facebook was scratch and sniff - it's smelling amazing in the brew kettle according to sources. Stay tuned for release date. [1800 Pike Rd, Longmont, CO]

Atom Brewing Co - Status update on this upcoming brewery: They had a good meeting with the town of Erie yesterday just to make sure all their ducks are in a row. The inspector is coming out early next week to look over the building to make sure things are good to move forward. May have a potential hiccup with the foundation needing some work, after all it was built some time in the early 30's. So fingers crossed and send good vibes that there is nothing major there. Northern Colorado

WeldWerks Brewing Co - This soon-to-open brewery in Greeley has started making beer as of December 30th as they put their new brew system into operation. One of the first beers they brewed was a coffee stout. Look for them to open sometime in February 2015. There's still some work left to do to finish up the interior and taproom, but the brewhouse is in full operation. Look for word on opening day very soon. [508 8th Ave, Greeley, CO]

Verboten Brewing - Despite the gloomy and cold weather outside they have some fun stuff in store for hump day at the brewery!
