[Northern Colorado Beer News] - Twas the week before GABF and all through the state all the brewers were prepping for an event they call great. Are you ready for the Great American Beer Festival? Now's the time to get yourself prepared for the biggest beer drinking event of the year. Plenty of pre-GABF events and tappings are being planned. Here's what's happening around the Northern Colorado craft beer scene for the week of September 26 - October 2, 2016. Wiley Roots Brewing Co - There will be a big bottle release this Wednesday, October 5th from 1pm to close. Wiley Roots is releasing FIVE different beers in bottles: #1 Key Lime Express Belgian-style Grisette with Brett, #2 Sudachi Farmhouse Saison, #3 Sorachi dry hopped Farmhouse Saison, #4 Breakfast with Mr B's dark sour ale with black currants and maple syrup, and #5 Citra Dry Hopped Funk Yo Couch Farmhouse Saison with Brett. Then on Friday, October 7th at 2pm they'll release this year's batch of Apumpalyptica Imperial Pumpkin Ale. Plus, they'll also pour some barrel aged versions of Apumpalyptica (2016, 2015 & 2014). Boulder Beer Company - Boulder Beer's popular Pulp Fusion Blood Orange IPA is now going to be a year-round beer! Sales of this summer seasonal were so good they decided to keep it around as part of their core portfolio of beers. Stop in Thursdays for Team Trivia at 7pm. Friday's bring Double Happy Hour from 3-6:30pm and also 8pm to close. Cellar West Artisan Ales - The soon to open brewery is now TTB approved! Their first ever brew day is quickly approaching. Stay tuned for news on their opening. Targeting November 2016. To be located at: 1001 Lee Hill Dr #10, Boulder, CO.
Crystal Springs Brewing Co - As of September 27th, Crystal Springs has released the first of their fall beers, South Ridge Amber, in 12oz/6 packs. Shortly thereafter they will release Doc’s in 12oz/6 packs, followed by the return of Solano (in 12oz/6 packs) – they will soon have their new canning line up and running! Fate Brewing Co - While it may be National Coffee Day on Thursday September 29th, the folks at Fate Brewing are turning it into "National Coffee Beer Day" instead. They've got a Coffee Kolsch and a Coffee IPA currently on tap. #drinkyourfate at: 1600 38th St #100, Boulder, CO.
J Wells Brewery - It pays to read Fermentedly Challenged's weekly NoCo Beer News. Why? Left Hand Brewing Co - Left Hand Brewing will be celebrating Oktoberfest tonight over at Samples World Bistro in Longmont from 6pm to 8pm tonight. There will be lots of German fare, songs and of course Left Hand beer. Back in the taproom tonight it's Vinyl Thursday and they'll lead things off with David Bowe's Fame. Tonight's special is Get a 6-pack of Milk Stout Nitro and 2 Stout Glasses all for $20. Located at: 1265 Boston Ave, Longmont, CO.
Odd13 Brewing - Today, September 29th at 5pm, Odd13 will be releasing two barrel aged sour beers: Soul Thief, imperial saison with ginger and citrus, as well as Curandera, a dark sour saison aged in cognac barrels with tamarind. These beers will also be available in large bottles for take home (limit 1 bottle of Curandera and 2 bottles of Soul Thief per person). Also, Hop Troll Eureka is back on tap for an exclusive taproom only batch. This one IS available for growler fills. Lastly, Chainsaw Princess of Karate, a dragon fruit and passion fruit sour ale, will be tapped this Saturday, October 1st. It'll also be in cans on store shelves too. The Old Mine Cidery & Brewpub - The Old Mine's Handlebar Hard Cider and Hop Miner are busting out of the confines of their brewpub and is heading to cans in the next few weeks. They will be working with Mobile Canning and putting their popular beverages in cans. Look for them in local stores and available at The Old Mine very soon! Located at: 500 Briggs St, Erie, CO.
The Pumphouse Brewery - Back on tap from earlier this week is their Hooligan Double IPA. It's a massive 9.6% ABV and 148 IBU brew that's packed with hop goodness. Just imagine how many hops went into this beer to get to 148 IBUs! Located at: 540 Main St, Longmont, CO.
Twisted Pine Brewing Co - Just for the locals - starting on Saturday, October 1st, Twisted Pine will be extending their hours and adding a late happy hour. They'll be staying open until 10pm and starting Happy Hour at 9pm. Stop in during CU Buff football games - they now have their games on TV. Located at: 3201 Walnut St, Boulder, CO.
Wild Woods Brewery - Featured beer this week is their "Palm Tree Pale", an American Pale Ale made and dry hopped with tropical flavored Mosaic hops and conditioned with toasted coconut. Located at: 5460 Conestoga Ct, Boulder, CO.

1933 Brewing Co - Late last weekend, 1933 Brewing released their newest brew "Life is Peachy" Strong Ale made with Palisade peaches and aged in Feisty Spirits Peach Brandy & Bourbon barrels. Plus, the brewers were recently busy making their famous Chili Beer this week. Stay tuned for a release date on this one. Plus, get your dog ready for Barktober Festival set for October 9th from 11am to 2pm at 4103 S Mason St. Join in for a fun, dog friendly event complete with bobbing for hot dogs, canine behavior coaches, local food, brews, local pet businesses, prizes and more. Berthoud Brewing Company - Heading to Berthoud for Oktoberfest this Saturday October 1st? Be sure to stop in at Berthoud Brewing for their all-day Bocktoberfest After Party lasting until 10pm that day. Big Beaver Brewing Co - Pucker Up! Big Beaver's Sour Brown ale is back on tap this week. Stop in for Trivia night every Thursday from 7pm to 9pm. 1st & 2nd place teams win Beaver Bucks. 3rd & 4th place teams each get a Geeks Who Drink growler filled with any beer they want! City Star Brewing - The latest in City Star's Barrel Aged Series will be released in the City Star taproom this Saturday, October 1st: Hellbilly, a sour harvest ale brewed with pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, cloves, nutmeg and vanilla and aged 10 months in rum oak barrels. The brew features a deep orange hue, offers a bouquet of spices on the nose, tastes remarkably tart (3.46 pH) with a pumpkin oak finish, 7% ABV. 500 bottles will be available for sale at $18/22oz bottle (1 case limit), AND Hellbilly will be on draft for sampling. Each bottle is dipped in wax and hand stamped with the City Star Brewing seal. With only 500 bottles of Hellbilly they don't expect their supply to stick around long. Equinox Brewing - If it be Thursday, it must be a Firkin day. Today's firkin is a "Chipotle Waves of Grain" Amber Ale. It's their final Spicy September firkin of 2016. Come enjoy one. Located at: 133 Remington St, Fort Collins, CO.
Grimm Brothers Brewhouse - Get ready for the next beer release coming up on Tuesday, October 4th at 6pm. It's the release of their next Fabled Fermentation collaboration beer "Local Love". Local Love is an all Colorado SMaSH beer, (Single Malt and Single Hop). Grimm Bros got together with friends at Root Shoot Malting Co. to source the 100% Munich Malt base for this beer. They traveled south to Longmont local Colorado Hop Co. to get the Willamette Hops that were sourced from a local farmer on the Western Slope. Local Love is all Colorado, showcasing the wonders of what this state has to offer. It starts out with a soft sweetness from the malt, balanced out by the slightly fruity, clean hop bite that lingers into the finish. The single malt and single hop makes it seem blah from the outside looking in, but will surprise you with the complexity that comes through from varying hop additions. They'll have a special release party over at The Laureate Publick House in Loveland on Tuesday October 4th form 6pm to 8pm (548 N Lincoln Ave, Loveland, CO). Horse & Dragon Brewing Co - Fermentedly Challenged's Beer Pick of the Week is their H&D Stout on Nitro. It's even fun watching them pour it and marveling at the cascading foam in the glass. Dark, roasty and creamy good from the nitro. A pint awaits at: 124 Racquette Dr, Fort Collins, CO.
Jessup Farm Barrel House - Don't forget to join in this Saturday, October 1st from 5pm to 10pm for the Barrel House Barn Dance. It's going to be a night of beer and dancing to the sounds of The Dollhouse Thieves from 5-7pm and then music from Andrew Decarlo & Friends from 8pm to 10pm. Bring a dance partner or find one there. Loveland Aleworks - Be sure to drop by Loveland Aleworks during GABF Week (October 3-8, 2016). The brewery has pulled out several special barrel-aged beers from their beer cellar and will be featuring them in the taproom all week long. It's like a box of chocolates, you never know what kind of barrel-aged beers you're gonna get. But they're bound to be special. Located at: 118 W 4th St, Loveland, CO.
New Belgium Brewing - New Belgium will be the topic of a special GABF Kickoff Party at Avanti F&B (3200 Pecos St, Denver, CO) on Tuesday, October 4th from 6pm to 9pm. They'll be tapping New Belgium's: La Folie, Nitro Oscar Worthy Coffee, and NBB Love Apple Felix. Order a NBB beer and get a chance to win tickets to the Saturday night GABF Session. Someone is going to win them - may as well be you! Then after the GABF is over on Saturday, October 8th from 10pm to 2am, stop over at Falling Rock Tap House (1919 Blake St, Denver, CO) for the 2016 GABF Final Party featuring more special New Belgium tappings including: Felix, Peach Wheat Wine, Whiskey Barrel-aged Fat Tire, NBB Love Apple Felix, Abruzzi Rye Porter, and Rockstar.
Odell Brewing Company - Odell Brewing of Fort Collins, CO and Harpoon Brewery of Boston, MA are proud to be among craft beer's ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) breweries. This year, they've collaborated on the release of an EHOP Pale Ale in which both breweries will offer their take on the style. To help celebrate employee ownership, they'll be pouring beer from fellow employee owned breweries New Belgium, Deschutes, and Left Hand. All five breweries will have special beers available at the Odell taproom in Fort Collins from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on October 5th. They invite you to join in for great beer among friends. Pateros Creek Brewing Company - New beer tapped today (September 29th) - "Cut The Lights IPA". This is billed as a hop forward IPA made with Cascade, Nugget, Palisade and Wakatu hops. EZ drinking and well balanced. Named after an event back in 1888 where the town folk of Fort Collins cut the lights and busted James Howe out of jail so they could hang him in protest of him killing his wife. Rally King Brewing - Stop in on Sundays at Rally King for Lupita's Breakfast Burritos from 11am to 1pm. They're $6 while they last. Also, on Monday's they'll have FREE freshly baked chocolate chip cookies available to go with your beer from 5pm to 8pm. Plus, if you buy a T-shirt on Mondays you'll also get a FREE beer. Then stop back on Tuesdays wearing that same shirt and your 1st beer will be FREE! So you can get a couple of free beers and cookies this coming week just for buying a shirt and wearing it. Soul Squared Brewing Company - Coming soon - October 8th - you can find their new October CSA beer "Fresh Hop IPA" in bottles over at Wilbur's Total Beverage in Ft. Collins and at Cantina in Wellington. Only available in bomber bottles. Quantities are limited so grab em while you can. (No taproom).
Three Four Beer Co - Today, September 29th, Three Four Beer Company is releasing their latest creation: "Hop Experiment #3: The Colorado Turbid IPA". This is billed as a New England-style cloudy IPA. It's got a big nose full of citrus and floral hops. On the tongue it's a bit heavy with some slightly sweet notes with flavors of lemon, tangerine and grapefruit. Brix Taphouse & Brewery - This Saturday, October 1st, Brix is hosting another special Pint Night from 7pm to 9pm. This time they are featuring brews from Odell Brewing Company. High Hops Brewery - Starting today, High Hops is tapping their new Pumpkin Spice Red Ale called "Home By Midnight". It's a seasonal brew made with honey malt and nugget hops and just the right amount of pumpkin spice. It's a big one too weighing in at 7.1% ABV. Upcoming brews: Golden Grand Cru debuts on October 6th and their Bad Mama Java Ale debuts on October 13th. Next Wednesday's special GABF Firkins will be "Flower Power" on 10/6 and "Oh My Gourd" on 10/7. Stop in for live music on Friday 6-8pm and Saturday 5-7pm. WeldWerks Brewing Company - The last keg of their Coffee Maple Achromatic Imperial Stout will be tapped today and it won't last long. Next up is the big release of their Barrel Aged Mexican Achromatic in bottles next week on Wednesday starting at 12 noon. Limit 4 bottles per person. Fermentedly Challenged got to taste this brew at the Greeley Oktobrewfest last weekend and it is fantastic! Another must have brew. Also, coming up on Monday, October 3rd is the release of their Double Dry Hopped Juicy Bits IPA. Located at: 508 8th Ave, Greeley, CO.

11th Annual Fresh Hop Fest - The beer-centric minds of the Colorado Brewer's Guild and Two Parts have done it again bringing to you the 11th Annual Fresh Hop Festival on October 1st presented by Falling Rock Tap House and Molly's Spirits. This year's event has landed in a new and improved location—the old Golden Bell Press building (2403 Champa St., Denver, CO 80205), and the future home of Liberati Brewing is located just a few blocks from Falling Rock. This event showcases a medley of fresh hopped beers created by breweries from across the country. The majority of beers will come from the greater Colorado area, but some out-of-state guests will grace us all with their presence as well! Tickets are $40 and are available online.
